The story of Cornerstone Church was started in September of 1980 by Pastors Allen & Dena Gregory. In 1981, the church moved from their living room to a permanent building on Schrade Road in Rowlett, TX. Pastor Gregory would devote 34 years of his life to faithfully loving the people of Rowlett and Cornerstone Church. During that time, he would begin the work of expanding the vision for Cornerstone’s future and that included purchasing an additional 34 acres of adjoining land.
In February of 2015, following Pastor Gregory’s passing, Assoc. Pastors Brian & Lisa Hiatt stepped in as the new Lead Pastors of Cornerstone Church after serving as Assoc. Pastors for 14 years. Their efforts to see Cornerstone be a force for good in Rowlett, were quickly realized during the 2015 tornado and continue to this day. As they lead through team collaboration and prayerful innovation, they are always looking to seek the lost and empower believers for the Kingdom of God.
But, what about the vision for Cornerstone’s future? Well, 34 acres, 28 years and 3 buildings later, the vision is moving forward. Cornerstone made the courageous decision of voting to let go of tradition and follow the call of God by allowing a charter school to purchase the original campus and then becoming a mobile church at the same location. This would become a greater hidden blessing during the 2020 pandemic since the church was already innovating ways to gather and worship together. But, through prayer, sweat and faith, Cornerstone Church is strong and poised to break ground on a brand new campus on Dalrock Road in Rowlett, TX on the same 34 acres purchased in 1993.
Cornerstone is not only looking to build a new gathering place, but we also know that the Holy Spirit has so much more. Reaching our immediate community; intentional diversity through oneness; and always making room for the experienced presence of God are how we need to be known.
Our story is really just beginning and we’re glad you’re here!
