In September of 1980, Cornerstone Assembly of God Church began in the living room of Allen and Dena Gregory’s home. Within a few months, a building in Rowlett was rented to begin Sunday and Wednesday services. In the summer of 1981, the church purchased property on Schrade Road and in the spring of 1982 construction began on the Dome building. In the spring of 1990 construction began on a new sanctuary as the dome could no longer hold the growing congregation. Construction was completed in October and the doors to the new sanctuary opened in November. In January of 1993, 34 acres adjoining the Schrade property were purchased. This property is located on Dalrock Road.
In the fall of 1993, Rowlett Christian Academy opened its doors. This was Dena’s dream. RCA educated and ministered to students and their families for 14 years. Sadly, Dena passed away in December 2007 from kidney failure. In 2008, RCA transitioned to a K-4 only school and a charter school began filling the role of educating the other grades. Pastor Allen Gregory had the pleasure of working with his family in the ministry for over 34 years. He passed away February 5, 2015. He loved his God, his family and his church and showed it every day as He served the Lord!
Rev. Brian & Lisa Hiatt became the Lead Pastors of Cornerstone after serving as Associate Pastor for 14 years. Along with their leadership team, they are continuing to serve and minister to Rowlett and the surrounding communities. We are so thankful to God for blessing us with our Pastors and placing Cornerstone here in Rowlett. Cornerstone has touched the lives of many and we are thankful for our heritage. But this is just the beginning. We believe God has big plans for us and the property He has given us. We look forward to experiencing more of God’s power and presence and reaching and touching many more lives as we work to build God’s kingdom both here in Rowlett and around the world.
